Every member of UVERworld originates from the city of Kusatsu, in Shiga Prefecture. They were all initially members of the seven-piece hard rock band Sangoku Road, which made use of a dual-lead vocal attack coming from TAKUYA∞ and Alice Ice. Alice Ice is credited as having co-written the lyrics for two early UVERworld singles with TAKUYA∞ and, strangely enough, a 2009 album cut for J-Pop idol 中川翔子.

The name “UVERworld” is an interesting blend of portmanteau, poetry and creative typography. The band sought to combine the German word for “over” — “über” — with the English words “over” and “world” to create a phrase with the implied meaning of “crossing above the world.”

5) “儚くも永久のカナシ”

This song was used as the first opening theme for the second season of the mecha anime series Mobile Suit Gundam 00, which is on record as being the first Gundam-based television series to be animated in an HD widescreen format. The release of this single marked the start of UVERworld’s two-year relationship with the Gundam franchise.

4) “僕の言葉ではない これは僕たちの言葉”

This song was used as the first opening theme for the fantasy anime series アルスラーン戦記.

The music for this track was a collaborative endeavor that required the work of the entire band, as well as of their in-house producer and sound mixer 平出悟.

3) “クオリア”

This song was used as the theme song for the 2010 animated film 劇場版 機動戦士ガンダム00: A Wakening of the Trailblazer. This movie is notable for being the first installment of the Gundam metaseries with extraterrestrial antagonists.

This single was released in a limited-run “Gundam edition” put out by Sony Music three days before the film. It compiled all of the music UVERworld had written for the Gundam 00 series: “クオリア,” “Change,” which was initially released as the B-side of the single “Gold” and “儚くも永久のカナシ.”

2) “Fight For Liberty”

This song was used as the theme song for the military science fiction anime series Space Battleship Yamato 2199. It is a remake of the original 1974 anime series directed by 松本零士, which, in the English-speaking world, was released in a heavily edited, dubbed version titled Star Blazers.

1) “D-tecnoLife”

This song was used as the second opening theme song for the shonen anime series Bleach.

The bat-bear hybrid on the cover of the CD single is UVERworld’s official mascot “UVER-chan.” Its face has appeared on the covers of the band’s first three CD singles, and its winged body is in full view on the cover of the group’s debut album, Timeless.
